After a two hour drive from Frankfurt Airport to Bonn, my classmates and I were picked up at Old AIB in the center of town. Exhausted from the flight and jet lagged, I walked towards my host mom Dorothea, who greeted me with a firm handshake. We drove with Maria, another host mom housing Lauren, a Texas A&M student passionate about historical preservation. We made small talk throughout the drive, rare in German culture. Lauren and I mostly looked out the window admiring the city of Bonn.
Dorothea's home is in a suburban neighborhood north of town. She lives in a small but very spacious three story house. I am staying on the second floor overlooking my host family's garden. Later that night I unpacked. Dorothea made homemade spaghetti with a flavorful corn salad. So far, I am loving the experience of studying abroad.
